Sarjubala, Nikhit make it to quarterfinals of Women's National boxing championship

Nikhat Zareen boxingHaridwar: 2014 World Championship silver medallist Sarjubala Devi and former junior world champion Nikhit Zareen notched up contrasting wins over their respective opponents to reach the third round of the Women's National Boxing Championship here on Monday.

The two-time former national champion, Sarjubala registered a 2-1 victory over Mizoram's Rebacca Lal in 48 kg category, while in the flyweight (51kg) division, Zareen, a former Youth World Championships silver-medallist, from Talengana beat Jyoti from Rajasthan 3-0 in a one-sided contest.

In 64kg category, Pavitra, who represents the Railways Sports Promotion Board, and Chandigarh's Manjinder scored technical knockouts over Uttarkhand's Nivedita and Imroz Khan of Uttar Pradesh respectively.

In 69kg category, Meghalaya's Mainu R Syngkli scored a TKO over UP's Shivani Sharma.

Among others in light fly weight (46-48kg) category, Uttarakhand's Krishna Thapa, Sudesh, Kerela's Maria Thomas, Delhi's Pooja Tokas and
Haryana's Monika completed outclassed their respective opponents with a 3-0 scoreline in lop-sided contests to reach the next round.

Pondicherry's Bhuvaneshari defeated Telangana's Mounika after scoring a technical knockout.

Among others in 64kg division, Punjab's Simranjit Kaur and Suman, representing All India Police blanked 3-0 their respective opponents Ch Latarani Devi of Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh's Ankita.

Delhi's Akansha Mishra, Jyoti from Haryana and Maharashtra's Mohini outboxed their opponents with a similar scoreline of 2-1, while A Manisha of Andhra Pradesh defeated Nila M of Pondicherry via techinical knockout to reach the second round.
