World Boxing Association to certify Indian boxing officials

Stanley Christodoulou INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME REFEREE JUDGEThe Indian Boxing Council, today announced the conduct of a Technical officials Seminar by WBA Technical delegates. The seminar is aimed at equipping Indian officials to officiate at National, Asian & World level Pro Boxing contests. The IBC is affiliated to the World Boxing Association, headquartered in Panama City, South America. The WBA founded in 1921 is the oldest amongst the 4 largest organizations which sanction world championship boxing bouts.

The 3 day seminar organized by the Indian Boxing Council will be held in a hotel in the city from 17th to 19th Feb 2016. The international officials for the seminar were nominated by the President, World Boxing Association Mr. Gilberto Jesus Mendoza during the 94th WBA Convention at Panama City.

Stanley Christodoulou, Advisor – WBA, Regional development is one of the most recognized faces in Pro Boxing around the world and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York on 13 June 2004. He was the first man to referee world title fights in all 17 weight categories, and the third to oversee 100 world title bouts. Christodoulou served as executive director of the South African Boxing Board of Control, and has twice been named South Africa Boxing's 'Man of the Year'.

The Medical Ringside Physician/ Doctor’s seminar aimed at helping IBC Medical commission to put in place world class Medical standards to govern the sport will be conducted by Dr. John Hartley Fleming, Member of the Medical Commission of the World Boxing Association. Dr. John Hartley Fleming is a renowned Neurologist from South Africa.

Ms. Mariana Borissova, European Coordinator of the WBA who has officiated in over 150 Title Fights all over the world shall conduct the Supervisors Seminar. Ms. Borissova who is from Sofia, Bulgaria is one of the most active women in the sport of Boxing around the world.

Brigadier Raja, President of the IBC said “ The Indian Boxing Council is in its infancy and the very fact that the President WBA, Mr. Gilberto Mendoza Jr. has appointed 3 world leading figures from the sport of boxing in setting up frameworks in India, gives a clear indication of the potential he sees in Indian Boxing”
Mr. Gaive Nagporewalla, Chairman of the Ring officials Commission added “We have received a tremendous response with over 40 IBC officials from all across the country applying to attend the workshop over 3 days at New Delhi.”
