New York: Two times champion Venus Williams crashed out of the US Open after she lost to Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-2 5-7 7-5 in a tense second round matchup here last night.

The former World number 1 who arrived unseeded in the tournament showed immense fight back but could shake off the sixth seeded German. Venus who went a set down came back to win the second and then opened a 4-2 lead in the decider, but a brilliant display of tennis saw Angelique go through.

Agnieszka Radwanska who could not go past the second round in the last three US open finally broke the jinx as she defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to make it to the third round of the tournament.

Meanwhile Wimbledon and Olympic champion Serena Williams Serena Williams battled past María José Martínez Sánchez, 6-2 6-4 to enter the third of the tournament.
