Udayan Mane wins Maharashtra Open

Pune: A year ago Udayan Mane finished second, but this time around, he seemed to be in no such danger as he ran away with the Maharashtra State Amateur Open by nine shots, leaving second placed Delhi's Sidharth Semwal (74) and defending champion Bengaluru's Khalin Joshi way behind at the Par-71 Poona Golf Club on Friday.

The 20-year-old Mane, four ahead after three days was one-over for the front nine, but finished with one-under back nine for a par-71 in the final round. He finished off in style with birdies on 16th and 17th and par on the 18th and a total of three-under 281.

Semwal and Joshi tied for second at 290 while Bengaluru golfers, CG Somiah (70) and National champion Seenappa Chikkrangappa (74) were tied for fourth at 292. Trishul Chinappa (70) and Honey Baisoya (73) were tied for sixth.

Mane’s lone bogey on the front nine came on the third and he had another bogey on 12th, but he was never in danger of losing his lead or anyone coming close as Khalin turned in three-over 38 and turned in 35. Then Mane’s birdies on 16th and 17th made the win sweeter.
