Gaurika wins Northern Indian Ladies Golf C'ship

Gaurika-Bishnoi-the-leader-of-day-1-of-Usha-Northern-India-Ladies-Golf-Championship-2013Gurgaon: Persistent inclement weather played spoilsport, resulting in the abandoning of the final days’s play in the Usha Northern India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championships 2013, at Gurgaon’s Classic Golf Course.

Gaurika Bishnoi, the leader at the end of two days with an aggregate score of three under 141 over 36 holes of golf, was eventually declared the winner. This is the Gurgaon girl’s first win of the season. Gauri Monga came in second with a score of even par 144 while Bangalore’s Aditi Ashok was placed third, finishing with a score of one over 145.

Nonita Lall Qureshi, one of the pioneers of Indian golf and Arjuna Awardee, distributed the trophies and other prizes to the winners as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony.

The weather today across the national capital region refused to relent for any considerable period throughout the day, rendering all efforts of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) officials, the organizers of the IGU Ladies & Junior Girls India Amateur Golf Tour, meaningless. The result does not change the IGU Ladies Tour Order of Merit list at the top and Gurbani Singh and Aditi Ashok still remain first and second respectively.

The IGU Ladies tour bandwagon moves to the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) next for the Usha DGC Ladies Open and with just one more tournament to go after that to conclude the 2013 season, someone will have to play out of her skin to dislodge Gurbani from her perch as the best Ladies Amateur Golfer of the country.
