Leander, Somdev move ahead in their respective ATP events

leander-paesBangkok/Kualalumpur: Leander Paes continued his good form from US Open as he reached the doubles quarterfinals along with Somdev Devvarman who also qualified for the same in their respective ATP tournaments. However, the pair of Divij Sharan and Purav Raja could not progress to the next round.

Paes was the first one to take the field along with his Italian partner Daniele Bracciali at the Thailand Open in Bangkok as the pair pipped James Cerretani and Adil Shamasdin without any hiccups.

Paes/ Bracciali pair overcame the American-Canadian pair 7-5 7-6(4) in the first round of the ATP 250 hard court tournament who went down fighting.


The other Indian pair of Divij Sharan and Purav Raja managed to show some fight as they went down 5-7 5-7 to higher-ranked Colombian pairing of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in their first round.

Paes and Bracciali will now be looking for a place in the semi-finals as they get ready to take on the Columbian pair Cabal and Farah.

Somdev Devvarman along with his South African partner Rik De Voest registered an easy 6-3 6-2 win over Spaniard Pablo Andujar and Victor Hanescu of Romania in the Malaysian Open.

They will take on the second seeded French-Serbian team of Julien Benneteau and Nenad Zimonjic.
