London: The next big thing in men’s tennis, Bernard Tomic, was in full flow against James Blake and beat him 6-3 6-4, 7-5 to cruise into the third round of Wimbledon here on Thursday. Tomic kept things simple to register the straight sets win.
The quarter-finalist of Wimbledon 2011 has lived up to the expectations so far and it was his confidence that made the world of difference in this match of second-round. Blake started on awful note as he was forced to come to the net which allowed Tomic to free his arms. All his experience and intellect went in vain as he hardly had answer to the Australian riddle.
Things went haywire for Blake when he started committing unforced errors which turned the game in Tomi's favour. Tomic broke the opening service game of his opponent and finished the point off with an accurate overhead. Tomic took a lead but Blake made a comeback to level the set 4-4 by clinching the eighth game.
However Tomic raised the level of his game while Blake with his unforced errors allowed the Australian to wrap up the game to win the second set by 6-4. The American couldn’t do much in the first four games of the third set and was lagging by 1-3 but his fighting spirit once again allowed him to level the set at 5-5. But Tomic was in no mood to lose his berth in the next round and finally winded up the contest with 7-5 in the deciding set. Tomic will clash against Richard Gasquet in third-round of Wimbledon.
Meanwhile in the other tie of the men’s single, it was dominating performance of Tomas Berdych who beat Daniel Brands 7-6, 6-4(6), 6-2. It was a battle of equals as both the players were coming hard at each other but as the match progressed Berdych managed to crush his opponent in the second round clash that went on till one hour and 51 minutes.
