London: Germany's Sabine Lasicki continued with her brilliant run as she outplayed Kaia Kanepi in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Agnieszka Radwanska managed to beat her Chinese counterpart Li Na for a semi-final berth after a three-set tussle 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 6-2 which lasted two-hour, 43 minutes.
In other quarterfinal matches, Kirsten Flipkens beat Petra Kvitova 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Marion Bartoli defeated her American opponent Sloane Stephens 6-4, 7-5 to get to her first semi-final at The Championships since 2007.
Lisicki took it 6-3, 6-3 in 65 minutes, and even a passing downpour on No.1 Court in the moment of her victory could not dampen her signature smile.
“I was ready for this match,” she said. “I knew from experience I needed to make the switch quickly from beating Serena to get back to business here, and that was what I did so I’m very pleased. I feel no pressure at all. I went out to enjoy my game and win the match. It’s a game I love so much and I want to keep it that way. I thought anything was possible before the tournament started. I was as focused today as I was yesterday.”
Lisicki's first Wimbledon semifinal came two years ago and ended in defeat at the hands of Maria Sharapova. This time around, she will face Agnieszka Radwanska and, despite sitting 20 places below her opponent in the rankings, enters the match with an air of quiet confidence.
Radwanska beats Li Na
Meanwhile, Agnieszka Radwanska edged Li Na in a dramatic three-setter on Centre Court to return to the Wimbledon semifinals, 76(5) 46 62.
In an intense tie, it was the Polish fourth seed who managed to beat her Chinese counterpart after a three-set tussle which lasted two-hour, 43 minutes. With this impressive win, Radwanska will be meeting Lasicki in the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
Radwanska was the highest seed who was left in the draw after the exit of defending champion Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.
Flipkens upsets Kvitova in a three-set thriller
Kirsten Flipkens managed to overshadow the 2001 titlist Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon to ensure that a new women’s champion will be crowned this year. Making her way back after a series of injuries, the Belgian did well to make her way to the last four as she defeated Czech eighth seed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
She has become the first from her country to reach the semi-finals since Justin Henin in 2007.
Bartoli makes her way to the semis
In another quarter-final match of the women’s singles, it was Marion Bartoli who defeated her American opponent Sloane Stephens 6-4, 7-5 to get to her first semi-final at The Championships since 2007.
