Miami Masters: Somdev to face Djokovic in 3rd round

somdevisallsettomeetNovakJokovicinthirdroundSomdev Dewarman stunned World number 80 Edouard Roger Vasselin in the second round and now will face World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round ATP Miami Masters. This was his second encounter with Vasselin and now his head to head record is at 1-1.

Somdev played brilliantly against Roger-Vasselin and came out victorious after three sets. Losing the first set by 4-6, the unseeded Indian did well to make a comeback and won the second set with a score of 6-4. As the match went in to the third and final set, Somdev was having a tough time against the French opponent but finally won the set by 7-5 and sealed his place for quarters of the tournament.

Somdev saved seven of the nine break chances he faced in the match and that proved crucial in his win.

Now Somdev will be playing World No. 1 Djokovic. This won’t be his first-time that Somdev would be playing against a top-seeded player. Earlier he had played against Rafael Nadal and he put up a good fight.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes won their respective doubles matches and qualified for the second round.

Leander Paes and his French partner Michael Llodra, seeded seventh, have advanced to the second round after defeating Germany's Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3 7-5.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Daniel Nestor advanced to the second round of the men's doubles event after having quite a tough time against Richard Gasquet and Edouard.  Bhupathi and Nestor jagged up a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over their French opponents in a 79-minute opening round match.
