It was a bad day for India at Miami Masters as after Somdev Devvarman was sent packing by World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets, Indian veterans Mahesh Bhupathi and Lender Paes also exited with the respective partners in the doubles event.
Indo-French pair of Paes and Michael Liorda fought hard in both the sets but weren’t good enough against unseeded duo of Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark in the second round. The match lasted for 90 minutes as Paes and Llorda lost by 7-6 7-6.
In another second round match, third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Daniel Nestor lost to unseeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain and Oliver Marach of Austria. The Indo-Swiss pair were handed a second-round 6-3 6-3 defeat by the unseeded pair in less than an hour.
Earlier, Somdev Devvarman exited the singles competition after going down to World No.1 Novak Djokovic 6-2 6-4 in the third round on Sunday.
