New Delhi: Jeevan Neduncheziyan and Prerna Bhambri emerged champions in the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship after they won their respective finals at the DLTA complex here on Saturday
In the men’s section, top seeded Jeevanlived up to his billing and beat wildcard entrant Arjun Khade 7-6 (4), 6-1 while Prerna won the women’s title after her opponent Rishika Sunkara conceded the match due to fever.
Second seeded Bhambri was leading 2-6, 7-6 (7), 4-1 when the top seeded Rishika retired hurt.
Meanwhile in the U-18 category Rishab Aggarwal beat Karan Aggarwal 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the boy’s title, while Pranjala Yadlapalli pocketed the girls’ crown by beating Taran-num Handa 6-7 (8), 6-0, 7-5.
Jeevan and Prerna got richer by Rs 1.5 lakh while, Rishika and Khade were awarded Rs 1 lakh. This is for the first time that equal prize money was awarded after chief guest Sania Mirza requested the organisers to give out equal amount of prize money to both the winners.
