Anand playing in his first tournament after his world championship triumph now has only three whites and five black games remaining.

Fabiano Caruana of Italy registered his second win of the tournament after beating Russian Sergey Karjakin.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen after a first round loss beat Francisco Vallejo Pons of Spain.
