London Olympics: Kashyap beats Karunaratne to reach quartersLondon: Parupalli Kashyap’s good run at the London Olympics continued as he entered the quarterfinals after defeating Niluka Karunaratne from Sri Lanka in three sets 21-14, 15-21, 21-9.

Kashyap now is the first Indian men to have reached the quarterfinals stage at any Olympics. India’s previous best record was in Barcelona Games where Dipankar Bhattacharjee who reached the third round.

Kashyap started the match well and looked in great touch and he sealed the first game without much problem. But his Sri Lankan opponent came back strongly to win the second game to take the match into the final game.

In the final game Kashyap unleashed his smashes and won the match comfortably.

21st ranked Parupalli defeated Tien Minh 21-9 21-14 to reach the pre-quarterfinals.
