Sony Ericsson Open: Mixed day for Indians

Mahesh Bhupathi- Rohan BopannaMiami: Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna cruised into the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open here on Sunday whereas Indo-Russian pair of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina was knocked out of the tournament in the first round itself.

 

Bhupathi and Bopanna who entered the tournament sixth seeded rallied to beat Austria-Brit pair of Jurgen Melzer and Jamie Murray 7-5, 6-3 in match that lasted for little over an hour.

The Indian pair won two breaks points and saved all three. They also won a total of 63 points as compared to 49 won by their opponents.
Bhupathi and Bopanna will now face off against the Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Rafael Nadal.

Meanwhile, Sania and Elena  lost to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia and Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova 6-1, 1-6, 9-11 in a match which took an hour and six minutes to finish.

Even, Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek moved into the second round after they beat Marcos Baghdatis and Sam Querrey.
