Houston: World Number 10 John Isner defeated defending Champion Ryan Sweeting World No. 10 7-6(1), 7-6(4) in the quarter finals of US Men’s Clay Court Championship played here on Friday.
Isner delivered 11 aces; saved all six break points to beat Sweeting for second consecutive time this year.
Isner would now meet Feliciano Lopez in the semis who won the match against Carlos Berlocq who conceded the match due to an injury. Lopez was leading the match 6-4, 2-2 Berlocq retired
Meanwhile, Juan Monaco reached his third semi-final of the season, edging wild card Kevin Anderson 7-6(4), 7-5. Monaco won 83 per cent of his first serve points and converted the only one break point in the second set to win the match in two hours and eight minutes.
He would now square off against Michael Russell beat Ryan Harrison 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 to advance to his first ATP World Tour semi-final.
