Russell stuns Fish in US Men’s Clay Court Championship

 

Houston: World number nine Mardy Fish was stunned by Qualifier Michael Russell of America 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship on Thursday.

Russel won five of his eight break point opportunities, won 72 per cent of his second serve to see of Fish in 74 minutes.

Russel would now face his fellow countryman Ryan Harrison in the quarter finals who defeated Russia’s Igor Kunitsyn 6-2, 6-4. He finished the match in 71 minutes and 76 percent on his service points.

Second seeded John Isner made a comeback after dropping the opening set to defeat Horacio Zeballos, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2. Isner firing 16 aces in the match which lasted for two hours and 13 minutes.

Isner would now face off Ryan Sweeting in the quarters after he defeated Bobby Reynolds 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 11 minutes.
