Montreal Masters: Djokovic to face Nadal in semis

djokovic-bnp300Montreal: Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are ready to go head to head in the semi-finals of the Montreal Masters Rogers Cup after having a cake walk in their quarterfinal matches in Montreal on Friday. Djokovic managed to overpower seventh seeded Richard Gasquet by 6-1, 6-2 whereas fourth seeded Nadal ousted Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic by 6-2, 6-4.

With this easy win, Djokovic has pushed his winning streak at Montreal Masters Rogers Cup to 13 matches. Apart from seeing the giants of Tennis World taking on each other, home fans would be desperately waiting for all-Canadian semi-final which will be played between Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil.

Meanwhile, 11th seeded Raonic had a tough day, but he managed to hold on his nerves to clinch a victory. He won the opening set in a tie breaker by 7-6 (2), but Ernest Gulbis bounced back well to claim the second set by 6-4. In the deciding set, Canadian played some very good tennis to win by 6-4.

Raonic’s compatriot, Pospisil, didn’t have a tough time on the court, as his Russian opponent Nikolay Davydenko pulled out due to illness. Pospisil led 3-0 in the first set when Davydenko stopped playing.

In the women’s category, number one seed Serena Williams breezed through the quarter-final match of Rogers Cup on Friday as she defeated Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova 6-1, 6-1. Williams will now take on third-seeded Polish Agnieszka Radwanska who registered a win over fifth seeded Italian Sara Errani by 7-6 (1), 7-5.

In the other quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Chinese Li Na made it to the final four of the Rogers Cup as she beat Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 7-6 (1), 6-2; and Romania's Sorana Cirstea upset sixth-seeded defending champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
