Paris: Serena Williams registered a thumping win with a 6-0 6-2 against Romanian Sorana Criesta to make her way into the fourth round of the French open on Friday. Williams will now take on the victor of the tie between Roberta Vinci of Italy and Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic.
This win was her 27th win in a row which is the longest winning run of her career and with just losing six games in three matches, she looks to be a the hot favourite to clinch the French Open for the second time. It was in 2002 that Williams won it for the first time.
Serena dominated throughout the match and showed this tie was more of a mismatch as she finished off the first set in just 23 minutes on the Suzanne Lenglen show court. Williams dominated her in the first set and ended up winning all six games.
Williams continued her supremacy in the second set. Cirstea did get a chance to sneak through while rallying briefly at the start of the second set and even had two break points to lead 3-2. But she couldn’t make it count and finally surrendered against the ruthless power of American.
