Saina, Peas cruise into last eight of Rogers Cup

leander paesMontreal: India's Sania Mirza and Leander Paes advanced into the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup tennis doubles with their respective partners whereas their compatriots Rohan Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi teaming up together crashed out of pre-quarterfinals rounds.

Sania pairing with Bethanie Mattek-Sands of America defeated the Slovak duo of Dominika Cibulkova and Daniela Hantuchova 6-2, 6-3, in a match that lasted for an hour and nine minutes on Friday.

Indo-US duo took an early break in the first set to lead 3-1 but then dropped their serve. They did not lose track and bounced back and broke their opponents twice to win the first set. had an early break in the first set to go 3-1 up but they were broken back only to find their opponents drop their service twice more to lose the set rather tamely.

In the second set, Sania and Mattek-Sands once again opened up an initial 3-1 lead. They were broken once in the set and had a match point 
in the sixth game, but then could no break the serve and clinched the match of their own serve in the next match.

In the men's doubles in Toronto, fifth seeds Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgewn Melzer received a walk-over from Canadian Milos Raonic and Serb Viktor Troicki . 

They would now take on the third-seeded Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who beat Mexican Santiago Gonzalez and American Scott Lipsky 7-5, 7-5.

Sixth seeds Bhupathi and Bopanna, who got a bye in their first round match, were beaten by the team of Australian Paul Hanley and Serb Nenad Zimonjic in straight sets, 4-6, 6-7 (6).
