55th National Shooting Championships starts

New Delhi: The 55th National Shooting Championship Competition in shotgun events started today at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, New Delhi. This will continue until 4th February 2012.



Today was training day for Skeet event. About 84 shooters (Men & Women) are taking part in this event. Tomorrow, first day of Skeet Men event will start when they will shoot 3 rounds of 25 each. Remaining 75 birds and Finals will be shot on 30th January 2012. In Women, 3 rounds of 25 birds will be fired tomorrow and medal will be decided out of 75 birds. No Finals will be conducted in Women event, as there are not sufficient entries in this event.


Man Singh, Asian Shotgun Champion, who shot 149/150 during 1st Asian Shooting Championship at Kuala Lumpur along with Mairaj Ahmad Khan and P P Singh are participating in this event. Apart from these, other shooters like Harisimran Singh Sandhu, Harinder Bedi, Rao Inderjit Singh, M.P., Navin Jindal, M.P. and Anil Lad, M.P. will also be taking part in this event. In women section, Arti Singh Rao, Rashmee Rathore and Saniya Sheikh would be participating.


On 31st January 2012, Double Trap event will start. The competition is on 1st February 2012. Ronjan Sodhi, Col RVS Rathore, Mod Asab, Vikram Bhatnagar, Vikram Chopra and Sangram Dahiya are participating.


The Trap event will start on 2nd February 2012 and will be conducted on 3rd and 4th February 2012. The top shooters like Manavjit Singh, Mansher Singh, Kynan Chenai, Anirudh Singh, Anwer Sultan and Zorawar Singh are participating in this event.  In women section, Shagun Chowdhary, the only shotgun women shooter, ,who earned “Quota” for London Olympic Games will be participating on 3rd February with her competitors like Seema Tomar, Shreyasi Singh & Varsha Tomar.
