Abhinav Bindra awards air rifles to deserving junior shooters

Abhinav Bindra awards air riflesNew Delhi: In a unique gesture of giving back to sport, India’s only individual Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra awarded high quality German made Walther Rifles to five young talented and deserving Indian shooters, free of cost. The shooters received the weapons in New Delhi earlier today at Abhinav Futuristics's office .The promising young shooters are Satyam Chauhan (20), Gajendra Rai (16) Both from Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Tanwar (19) from Harayana, Arun Sharma (21) from Jammu & Kashmir and Nikhil B (16) from Karnataka.

The young shooters have been identified for support under the Abhinav Bindra and GoSports Foundation’s Shooting Development Programme, which offers support to 30 of India’s top rifle and pistol shooters. The Programme, instituted by the Abhinav Bindra Foundation and the GoSports Foundation, also offers shooting training and access to high-performance sports science expertise to the selected shooters through Development Workshops, in addition to monetary support and personalised mentorship by Olympians Abhinav Bindra and Suma Shirur.The shooters have been selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants, basis a comprehensive process that exemplifies the need to account for merit, sustained potential, and need. The selection process was overseen by Abhinav Bindra himself, who headed the selection panel consisting of other top shooters and experts.
