Pune: Olympic Medalist Gagan Narang and veterans Samaresh Jung and Anjali Bhagwat, all lined themselves up for Gold with a day to go for the conclusion of the 58th National Shooting Championships being held in the city’s Balewadi Shooting Range. Gagan, representing Air India, was lying third at the end of the first day of competition in the Men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions event with a score of 1163. Veterans Samaresh Jung and Anjali Bhagwat were also lying in identical fourth position in the Men’s 25M Centre Fire Pistol and Women’s 10M Air Rifle events respectively. All finals are slated for tomorrow’s concluding day of the Championships.

Gagan will have to counter the challenge from Army men Satyendra Singh and Chain Singh who with scores of 1168 and 1164, were occupying the top two slots at the end of day one of their respective events. In the Men’s 25M Centre Fire Pistol event, Gurpreet Singh of the Army was leading the field with a score of 293 while Vipin Rana of the Railways was a point behind with 292.

In the Women’s 10M Air Rifle event, Anjali would have to contend with the likes of Commonwealth Games Champion Apurvi Chandela of Rajasthan, who is currently perched at the top with a score of 416.2 and Anjum Moudgil of Harayana, who is lying second with a score of 414.3.
