From Formula One to Soapbox Race gets the speed with Red Bull!

Mumbai: If you cheered your lungs out for Red Bull Racing team at the Indian Grand Prix, consider that practice for India’s first ever Red Bull Soapbox Race. The Renault powered engines will be replaced by gravity power as the Mumbai inspired ‘Vada Pav’ and ‘Dabbawala’ designed soapboxes take centerstreet. And we’re inviting you to cheer and check out these designs which will literally get wings. Mark your calendars for Sunday, 2nd of December, 2012 at the Mount Mary Road in Bandra, Mumbai.

After being flooded with crazy and whacky entries from across the country, 70 teams are currently working feverishly with spanners and screwdrivers to create soapboxes from unexpected materials. Little wonder then that the names range from insane to more insane: Yerodynamik Yentrads, Cool Geek Che, YaBaDaBaDo-ers and The Smelly Socks!

To give you a taster, we have got a few shots of Mark Webber checking out a specially constructed- Red Bull Soapbox Rath before heading to the Buddh International Circuit for the Indian Grand Prix. Watch the speedster whiz around with his soapbox and check out some tips he’s giving the racers for the D-day, on Red Bull Content Pool.

Fuelled by creativity and competitive fun, Red Bull Soapbox Race is a unique non-motorized racing event which challenges both experienced racers and amateurs alike. The task is to design and build imaginative, human-powered soapbox machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race course featuring jumps, bumps and curves.

So let’s spice up the ‘Mount Mary Circuit’, celebrate Mumbai’s street life by dressing to your quirkiest best, show your dance moves and cheer for the teams- and help us make Red Bull Soapbox Race into one event Bandra won’t forget for some time to come!
