Sachin has advised me to work harder; Marykom has taught me to keep myself grounded always: Sakshi Malik

Sakshi Malik wrestlingNew Delhi: Sakshi Malik had a dream run at Rio Olympics where she became the third Indian women and the first Indian women wrestler to win a bronze medal in Olympics. That feat catapulted her into a youth icon and she became the cynosure all eyes back home.
“I feel so much honoured when people call me for events and give me awards and I believe that my hard work has paid off,” she said at an event on Thursday in New Delhi where she was announced be the face of Datsun redi-GO SPORT.
Feeling elated on receiving so much recognition after the Rio Olympics, Sakshi said that it’s a dream come true to her. “I had a dream to go to Olympics and win medal for India. I was nurturing this dream since I was 12-year-old,” said the champion wrestler.
From a small town girl to being the youth icon, Sakshi has given an impetus to women wrestling in India. Thanking her admirers for showering love and praise on her, she said, “I want to thank all the people of this country who are with me and make me feel so special. The ultimate aim for an athlete is to make sure that the flag of this country is always high. I have always tried to do that and will keep doing it in future”
On replying to what other celebrity sportspersons have taught her about maintaining her new found status, she said “I have met Sachin (Tendulkar) Sir and M C Marykom.  Sachin Sir has taught me to keep practising hard and never leave this aspect of life. Marykom has taught me to keep myself grounded always and be well natured in all circumstances.”
“Olympics are four years away and there are few tournaments in between them. I will continue to work hard and hope to win more laurels for India,” said Sakshi, the new brand of Datsun redi Go-Sport.  
During the event Sakshi Malik was honoured for her achievement at the Rio Olympic Games with a brand new Datsun redi-GO SPORT, presented to her by Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India.
 “The car is comfortable and I would go to practice on this car from nowonwards. My personality matches with this car and I feel honoured on being gifted this car by Datsun,” said Sakshi who will be featured in an upcoming Datsun advertising campaign for the Datsun redi-GO SPORT.
