Yogeshwar Dutt wants London Olympics silver medal to remain with late Besik Kudukhov’s family

Yogeshwar Dutts victory over Bajarang PuniaNew Delhi: After dedicating his upgraded silver medal at London Olympics to his countrymen, champion wrestler Yogeshwer Dutt showed the humane side of his character as he not only termed the tainted late Russian Besik Kudukhov as a fantastic wrestler, but also urged the authorities concerned to let the silver medal remain with Kudukhov’s family as it was a matter of pride for the Russian family.

 

Earlier, Yogeshwar Dutt, who got to know about the news of his bronze medal at London being upgraded to silver as result of men’s 60 kg freestyle category runner-up in 2012 Games, late Russian Besik Kudukhov’s sample being tested positive for a banned substance brought him back on the social media, had dedicated the silver medal to his countrymen. “This morning I got to know that my Olympic medal has been upgraded to Silver. I dedicate this medal to my countrymen,” wrote Yogeshwar on Twitter.

London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt losing in the first round at Rio Olympics was just not a shock for the Indians who were craving for yet another medal in Rio, it also put the wrestler into introspection as he secluded himself from the world, mulling over what went wrong at the mega event. In an interview to Times Of India, Yogeshwar said he was upset and angry with himself for his worst bout ever, which led to Rio disaster that he wanted to be alone and introspect as to why it happened with him.
