World Wrestling body clears Narsingh Yadav to participate in 2016 Rio Olympics

Narsingh Yadav RioNew Delhi: The United World Wrestling (UWW) on Wednesday cleared Narsingh Yadav to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 74kg category.

Earlier, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had communicated to UWW on Monday that NADA has cleared Narsingh of all doping-related charges and the 26-year-old would be re-included in the Indian team for the 74 kilogram competition.

The WFI in a press release on Wednesday confirmed that UWW has given its go ahead to Narsingh' for the Rio Games.

Earlier on Monday, National Anti-Doping Association (NADA) had cleared the wrestler of doping charges, concluding that his failure in the dope test was a sabotage by a fellow wrestler.

Meanwhile, WADA said it will review the case. World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Communications Coordinator Maggie Durand said that it has requested the NADA to send the case file so that it can review it. The WADA can appeal against the Anti-Doping Disciplinary panel’s decision to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS). If WADA decides to appeal to the CAS about Narsingh Yadav’s acquittal, the wrestler might have to wait a few more days before he leaves for Rio.
