Suspense over Narsingh's participation in Rio Olympics

Narsingh Yadav RioNarsingh Yadav won a bronze at 2015 World Championship and created a room for himself in 74-kg wrestling category in the next month's Rio Olympics which are to be held from August 5-21. But his participation is still up in the air. Reason being the dope test. Narsingh was at Sports Authority of India's Sonepat Centre when he received an email from National Anti Doping Agency(NADA) revealing to him that he has failed a dope test which was conducted on June 25.

It was a bolt from blue for Narsingh who had been preparing for Rio for the last four years and training very hard for Olympics which are at hand. He is accused of consuming Methandienone, an anabolic steroid taken for muscle development. He and his roommate Sandeep Yadav, an Indian wrestler has failed the dope test. Narsingh claims that this is a plot against him. "It's a conspiracy against me. My roommate Sandeep Yadav, too, has tested positive fir the same substance. We used to train together and eat together. He wasn't even going for the Olympics. Why would he do it? This shows something isn't right," he said.

He believes that it would be foolish for any athlete to dope so close to the Rio Olympics. There's obviously no reason for him doing it as Methandienone is of no use in wrestling. This drug helps in muscle building and for producing explosive power. He hasn't taken anything illegal in his life and had been clearing all the dope tests he faced till now. He has also written a letter to Wrestling Federation India(WFI) stating the alleged conspiracy against him.

He has been provisionally suspensed as per NADA's regulatons but nothing is sure shot yet. Final verdict is awaited.

Keeping in view his strong and credible arguments, it is hoped that he will be able to fulfill his dream of participating in the upcoming Olympics.
