Bengal get top billing at Cadet and Sub Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships

New Delhi: West Bengal and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), winners and runners-up in the boys section last year, and Andhra and West Bengal in the girls’ section have been given the pride of places in the draw taken out here for the 73rd Cadet and Sub Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships, to be held between December 8 and 13 at Kochi’s Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
In the Cadet boys’ section, West Bengal and Delhi, in that order, have the top billings while Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra B teams lead the pack in the girls’ section.

With all top players of the country, representing their states or units available, the championships gain in significance for more reasons than one. The meet will not only see healthy rivalries among teams as well as individual paddlers, who will have to put their best foot forward, but will also help them earn vital ranking points. The points, thus earned, will ultimately determine their positions for consideration at national camps as well as selection into the team to represent the country

As per the entries available when the draw was taken out by the TTFI, the sub-junior and cadet boys’ category will see 31 teams participating while 30 teams have entered in the sub-junior and cadet girls’ sections.

The teams have been divided into eight groups in all the four categories—sub-junior boys and girls and Cadet boys’ and girls—with highly-ranked teams occupying top perches in their groups. All this is based on the performance of the individual teams at the last championships.

The Kerala Table Tennis Association which will play hosts to the championships will be hold the sub-junior and Cadet events concurrently with the individual events following the team championship games. The individual events begin from December 10.
