New Delhi: Karnataka’s M. Siddhanth defeated West Bengal’s Gem Mahalanabish 3-1, while Bengal’s Divija Paul blanked compatriot Debanshi Chakraborty 3-0 to clinch the Girls’ crown, as the second UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships concluded at the Thyagaraj Stadium today.
Siddhanth’s game awareness held him in good stead, yet Gem managed to take a game of him. On the other hand, Divija’s winning form continued as she wrapped it up quickly.
The Boys’ semifinals turned into a showcase of resilience and fighting spirit. Karnataka’s Siddhanth had to endure one of the toughest battles in recent times against Haryana’s Reyansh Jain. Starting poorly and conceding the early advantage, Siddhanth regrouped with fearless attacking play to take a 2-1 lead. Yet, Reyansh’s grit brought him back into contention, forcing a decider. What followed was a nerve-wracking exchange, with both missing match points in a deuce thriller. Eventually, it was Siddhanth’s composure under pressure that carried him over the line—an effort that reflected not just talent, but courage.
The second semifinal between West Bengal’s Gem and Punjab’s Truijal Vohra was no less gripping. After a breezy 2-0 lead, Gem found himself tested as Truijal struck back, taking the third game and then levelling 2-2 with renewed rhythm. But Gem, showing maturity beyond his years, steadied himself and finished strongly, his determination proving the difference in crunch time.
The Girls’ semifinals mirrored the boys’ intensity. Assam’s Divija, after dropping the first game, hit back with conviction to lead 2-1. Though Bengal’s Titash fought back to force a decider, Divija’s calm and measured play sealed her passage to the final. In the other semifinal, Bengal’s Debanshi was clinical from start to finish, her precision leaving Telangana’s Mahima Venkata Krishna with little room to respond, as she booked her spot with commanding authority.
Rajdeep and Sakshya win
In the Under-11 finals, Bengal’s Rajdeep Biswas dropped a game before overcoming Punjab’s Satvik Sharma 3-1, while Karnataka’s Sakshya Santosh was in complete control, easing past Bengal’s Dayita Roy 3-0 to lift the Girls’ title, to wrap up the second gold for her state.
In the Boys’ semifinals, Rajdeep brushed aside Karnataka’s Sharvil Karambelkar in straight games, while Satvik Sharma outplayed Bengal’s Hridan Biswas 3-1. Hridan showed flashes of resistance in the second game but couldn’t sustain the momentum.
The Girls’ semifinals proved equally engaging, with Sakshya and Dayita stamping their authority through identical 3-1 wins. Sakshya overcame Bengal’s Debanna Ari, while Dayita got the better of Haryana’s Moksha Arora, both opponents offering an early fight before yielding to the stronger pair.
