Maharashtra continue to shine in Junior Aquatic Championship

Kenisha GuptaMumbai: The Second day of the 43rd Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championship started with the most grueling event the 1500m freestyle. The boys from Group I battled hard with Advait Page of MAdhya Pradesh winning the event with a time of 16:46.30 sec. He was followed by S Aswathaaman of Tamil Nadu with a timing of 17:13.19 sec and Prajwal Wagh gave challengers Maharashtra their first medal with a bronze with a timing of 17:13.65 sec.

Rayna Saldhana won the first gold for Maharashtra on Day 2 with a clinical performance to win the 400m freestyle Girls Group 1 clocking a time of 4:44.46 sec. Swimming in the Group 1 for the first time Rayna was followed by Bhavika Dugar of Tamil Nadu with a time of 4:47.40 sec and Preksha H M from Karnataka won bronze with a time of 4:47.46 sec.

Siddharth Sankhe earned Maharashtra its second gold of the day and a second gold for himself in the 50m Breast stroke with a time of 30.44 following his victory in the 100m Breast stroke yesterday. Siddharth was followed by S Nithya Anand of Tamil Nadu with a time of 31.12 seconds. The third prize went to Varun Patel who trains in Delhi with the Glenmark SAI National Swimming Academy representing Madhya Pradesh with a time of 31.33.

Kenisha Gupta from Maharashtra took the title of the fastest swimmer in the Girls Group II category winning the gold with a time of 28.20 sec. Annie Jain from Madhya Pradesh won her third silver of the meet with a time of 28.52 sec while Sunaina Manjunath won the last mefal of the day with a timing of 28.94 sec.

Trisha Karkhanis, the clubmate of Rayna from Glenmark Aquatic Foundation won silver for Maharashtra in the 200m Butterfly Girls Group 1 with a time of 2:32.53. Damini Gowda of Karnataka won her second individual gold of the meet with a time of 2:24.06 while Nikitha S V of Karnataka won bronze with a time of 2:33.26 sec.

Rudransh Mishra of Maharashtra won his second bronze of the nationals in the 800m with a time of 09:21.30 sec. Sanjay C J of Karnataka set a new National record 08:45.56 sec obliterating the existing record of Aryan Makhija to win his second individual gold. Saif Chandan K S of Karnataka won silver with a time of 09:07.84 sec.

Sadhvi Dhuri of Maharashtra won bronze in the 50m Freestyle Girls Group 1 with a time of 28.81 sec, Suman D. Ms Patil of Goa won silver with a time of 28.70 sec while Shraddha Sudhir of Karnataka became the fastest swimmer of the meet with a time of 28.59 sec.

The title of the fastest swimmer of the Nationals went to Rutvik Bhatt of Gujarat who won the 50m Freestyle Boys Group I with a time of 24.97. In a keenly contested race Neel Roy of Maharashtra won silver with a time of 25.06 followed by Jerry D. D'Mello of goa who clocked 25.07.
