Lewis Hamilton wins Hungarian Grand Prix

lewis-hamilton-us-gpBudapest: Lewis Hamilton converted his pole position into a maiden victory for Mercedes in the Hungarian GP as he edged past Kimi Raikkonen by 10.9 seconds while world champion Sebastian Vettel finished third here on Sunday.

It was Hamilton's 22nd win of his career and a success that restored him among the challengers for this year's drivers' championship.

Vettel goes into the August break with 172 points to Raikkonen's 134. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso now has 133 after finishing fifth while, Hamilton is on 124.

“What a great weekend!” said Lewis after his race victory in Hungary. “We really didn't expect this when we came here this weekend and I said last night that I would need a miracle to win today.”

“Well, just maybe they do happen. The team called the strategy and the pit stops just right and then it was just about managing the gap. I had some racing to do out there, though, with Jenson and Mark and I think we had the pace on everyone today. The team has just done an exceptional job: we have worked so hard to understand these tyres and we got the balance spot on today. I am very hopeful this could be a real turning point for us as we coped with these high track temperatures,” said Hamilton, thanking everyone at the team and at factories in Brackley and Brixworth.
