New Delhi: Hosts India suffered second successive defeat in the Asian youth women handball championship being played at the IG Indoor Stadium on Friday. Home team lost their second round league match to Japan, one of the favourite to win the tournament. Losing two league matches also diluted India´s chances of qualifying for the world meet as top five in the continental will get a berth for the global tournament.
Indian girls found the going tough in the initially stages of the contest and weren’t able to recover the lost ground in the second session, which paved way for Japan´s victory.
In another match, as expected defending champions South Korea dominated the contest against Chinese Taipei, racing to 5-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the match. The lead, however, continued to swell as the match progressed. At the end of the first half, eventual winners were leading by 16-2. The second session between the two teams also went on expected lines, with Koreans attacking the rival citadel at regular interval. The final score was 28-15 in favour of South Korea.
China also collected full points in their match against Uzbekistan, scoring 41-21. First session was close affair, China had only three points lead (17-14),but in the second session, China combined well to stamp its authority in the match.
