Jammu to flag off ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ initiative

Go For GoldJammu:  Sandeep Jajodia led Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited (MIEL) a flagship company of Monnet Group, the second largest coal-based sponge iron producer in the country and patrons of the Indian National boxing team will flag off the historic ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ initiative tomorrow March 1, 2012 from the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu.

 

 

The initiative, a first of its kind in the country is aimed at uniting India under one platform to instill the spirit of sports and encourage participating Indian athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games this year. Honorable Chief Minister of J&K, Mr. Omar Abhdulah, the chief guest for the ceremony will flag off the ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ convoy tomorrow along with Mr. Sandeep Jajodia, EVC & MD, Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited. The ceremony would kick start a historic journey of over 6000 kms and will witness the presence of a gamut of eminent personalities.

The ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ initiative will kick start a historic crusade of 12 budding athletes carrying a symbolic torch for over 6000 kms covering over 150 cities, bringing India under one platform to cheer for the nation’s glory in the most awaited global sporting event, the 2012 London Olympics. The Torch, which will be flagged off from Jammu on March 1, is expected to complete its journey at Kanyakumari in a time span of around 90 days and aims to spread the message of sportsmanship in a nation, which has been working hard to consolidate grounds on the global map for sports beyond cricket.

Monnet Ispat& Energy Limited, is also the sole corporate house promoting the Indian Boxing team whose four boxers have already qualified for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. Mr. Aslam Sher Khan, Former Olympian & President, Olympians Association of India and Former Indian Hockey team captain Mr. Zafar Iqbal from the Arjuna Awardees Association of India also have come forward in support of the ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ initiative.
