Karnataka day out in National cycling

Pune: Karnataka cyclists had a field day picking up three gold medals on a day that lined up junior events in the 16th National Road Cycling Championship at the 9-kilometer layout at Talawade MIDC, on Sunday.


In the seven-event final day schedule, Karnataka picked up golds in the both boys and girls  Under-15 Mass Start (9-kilometer) events. Malappa Martannvar won the boys event clocking 14 minutes 21.91 seconds, while Renuka Dandin stood first in the girls event with a 16 minute 32.30 seconds.

Both races run over one-lap of the lay-out saw a bunch of riders finish the race together leaving the track officials to sort the top three places.

The third gold came in the through Megha Gugad who won the Girls 5-km Individual Time Trial clocking 7 minutes 14.05.

Kerala gave Karnataka a close fight for day’s honours by winning two golds. Vivek AJ (29 minute 34.28 seconds) bagged the first place in the Boys Under-19 Mass Start. And
Lydia M Sunny (19 minutes 25.16s) won the Girls Under-17 Mass Start.

Host’s Maharashtra won a lone gold when Husein Korbu topped in the 9-km ordinary Cycle Race, pushing back Diven Meetei and Namdeo Durandi.
