Delhi: An inspired second half performance saw Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports overcome Deshbandhu college by 8 goals to 1 in the Group F clash of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports in the College Boys category. Before the start of the match. IGIPES required a win with a +3 goal difference as they were trailing Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College who had registered a 3-0 victory over IIT Delhi earlier in the day. Ajit Singh opened the scoring for IGIPES in the 8th minute.
The first half was full of missed opportunities for IGIPES as they failed to increase the lead. The missed opportunities came back to haunt them as Deshbandhu college managed to put the game level with a well-placed strike from their number 11, Vivek. With only 45 minutes left, IGIPES required 3 goals to qualify going into halftime.
IGIPES coach managed to motivate his team at the half as they emerged all guns blazing in the second half and took the lead on the hour mark with star man Ajit Singh scoring his second of the day. Dinesh Suhag soon put his hide 3-1 up when he scored in the 65th minute, a powerful shot by their winger hit the post before falling to Dinesh who managed to convert for his side. With 20 minutes left and IGIPES requiring 1 more goal, IGIPES went into 5th gear and scored their 4th through Ayush in the 72nd minute. Ajit Singh soon got his hattrick in the 77th minute to put his side well clear. IGIPES did not let the pressure get to them as they kept the scoreline ticking and got their 6th goal through substitute Simon Kujor in the 79th minute to kill the game off. Man of the match Ajit Singh got his 4th of the match in the 84th minute as the IGIPES attack relentlessly scored goals past the Deshbandhu defence. The last goal of the game came through Simon Kujor as he rounded up a brilliant second half performance by scoring in the 88th minute to end the match at 8-1 in favor of IGIPES.
The victory put IGIPES on top of Group F with 7 points and a +10 goal difference with Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar level on points but trailing on a +5 goal difference which saw IGIPES qualify to the knockout stage of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports College Football.
Other matches in the day saw St. Stephens College annihilate Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College by 10-0 insuring their qualification to the knockout stages as well.
