Chandigarh: As many as 08 teams including Chandigarh team have confirmed their participation in the 1st All India Invitational Basketball Tournament for Men (under flood lights) at Sports Complex, Sector 46, Chandigarh from 8th to 12th March, 2013. The teams are IOB Chennai, ONGC Dehradun, CRPF, Delhi, Rest of Punjab, PAP Jalandhar, Indian Army, RCF Kapurthala and host Chandigarh.
The tournament is being organized by Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India (B.F.I.) in collaboration with Chandigarh Basketball Association. The Sports Department will distribute the cash prizes to winners @ Rs.1,50,000/-, Runner-up Rs.75,000/- and 3rd place holder Rs.50,000/- each. 14 designated referees from Basketball Federation of India shall officiate in the tournament.
The Department has made elaborative arrangements for the stay of teams/officials in Hotel Parkview – 24, Kissan Bhawan – 35, Panchayat Bhawan – 18, Institute of Engineering-19, Chandigarh Beckons - 42
Eight teams divided in two pools and matches will be played on league-cum-knock-out basis. Two teams from each pool shall qualify for Semi-finals. The 24 Second Device and Electronic Score Board shall be used first time in the City Beautiful. However the Dunking Rings and Safety Pad on the Fibre Glass Board in both the Courts have been installed.
