Enough is Enough

suresh kalmadiMr Suresh Kalmadi…enough is enough now. As an Indian and a sports lover, I can’t take it anymore. At a time when Glasgow – the venue for 2014 Commonwealth is totally complete – New Delhi is still busy giving final touches to the ill-constructed and semi-finished stadiums, which will be holding the Games in less than a month now.

Had that been the only case, people like me could have given you the benefit of doubt for the existing chaos. But even an uneducated Indian can make a guess about the real reasons behind the fiasco. If that wasn’t enough, the skeletons of corruption, came tumbling down your cupboard, giving a clear picture of what was happening behind the gates of Indian Olympic Association’s office.

To it, the shenanigans of doping have come to haunt India again.

But as per the norms in Indian politics and administration, you on the first hand vehemently denied of such allegations and lately shamelessly passed on the buck on others.

At times I wonder whom to blame for the disaster. I wonder if the blame is to be put on the players or the coaches and the state associations for bringing shame to our country. Or is it the government that sees nothing wrong with the way Indian sports is being run and public money being wasted. At times I even blame the Indian public who refuse to awaken despite one of their hard earned money being systematically plundered by thieves and masquerades.

I hope I am not wrong in terming your coterie with this derogatory after the many of you in the organization have been accused of amassing enormous wealth without a valid proof. Don’t you as the leader you as the leader if IHF owe as much responsibility and accountability as that of the men caught.

But Mr Kalmadi, I am astonished by your adamant attitude. Is it arrogance or your hunger for power or your bruised ego that's stopping you from stepping down as the IOA chief? It's just your way of controlling it which has transposed IOA into a corrupt league and the federation has been discredited as synonyms of misdeeds and corruption.

It’s under you that unknown figures accrued enormous wealth, causing pecuniary loss to the public exchequer and bringing disrepute beyond reconciliation.

Even now if you say that you were unaware of the bungling going around in your association just under your nose, it becomes indigestible. It not only raises a finger or two indicating your connivance as brother in arms with your people, it even puts a question mark about your identity as a Member of Parliament.

You were supposed to arrest the prolong period of non-governance and reinvigorate a completely dispirited federation. Mr Kalmadi, you are living in a cloistered world where you see a few people and hear even fewer. You exist in an unreal world where vegetarian tigers sing and demons play fairies. We as sports lovers have been betrayed by the sequence of events that have occurred since the day you joined as IOA chief.

Pained by your disgraceful attitude, I request you to step down as the Indian Olympic Association’s president, taking up the moral responsibility for the chaos prevailing in Indian sports. Please take serious note of our sports minister''s advice and resign to let the fresh blood take charge. We don't say that those occupying the chair after you will be better or those preceding you were good. But then it''s has gone too suffocating for Indian sports in the last 15 years. Please let the game breathe before it dies a premature death.

Yours truly
An Indian
