Reisangmei dared to dream

New Delhi: Reisangmei VashumReisangmei Vashum was just eight-years-old when he was drawn towards football. But even at that tender age he dared to dream big. With so many stars playing at the National Stage from his native place, Vashum dreamt of making a name for himself at the National level.

Son of a farmer, Vashum is just another successful story from the North-East. And his first match wearing the National jersey was a big one indeed – against Bayern Munich. Now being overawed, the fighter within him stayed desperate to grab the opportunity. The next call came soon – for the Preparatory Camp in Dubai for the AFC Challenge Cup.

Vashum has always been an utility player – able to play both on the wings and in the middle. “It does not bother me, as I enjoy playing both as a striker as well as on the flanks. It's up to the coach to decide where I would play,” he explained.

“I’m extremely lucky to have donned the National Colours. We are such a big country and there are so many good footballers around. I’m also lucky to have played for Kingfisher East Bengal. It’s such a historic club.”

Ask him about his favourite player and he smiles. “Bhaichung Bhutia is a God to me. Playing alongside him against Bayern Munich stays the happiest moment of my life,” he maintains. Apart from Bhaichung, Messi stays his favourite.

“I need to establish myself as a regular member for the National Team. Getting selected for Dubai Camp is just the first step. I still have a long way to go,” the die-hard Barcelona fan opines.
