Maharashtra win “Women’s Championship” Award at Glenmark Senior National Aquatic C’ship

Glenmark Senior National Aquatic ChampionshipMumbai: Maharashtra won the women’s championship with 148 points underlying the strong overall performance from the Girls. The Swimming team championship was won by Railways in the Men’s with a total of 175 points, Karnataka won the overall swimming championships with 246 points.

Aditi Dhumatkar won Gold medal in the 100m Freestyle Senior Women’s category in the time of 00:29.14 sec beating Olympian Shivani Kataria of Haryana who won the Silver medal in the time of 00:59.50 sec and another Maharashtra Swimmer Rayna Saldhan has won the Bronze medal in the time of 00:59.91 sec.

The final event of the competition was the exciting 4*50 Freestyle Mixed relay featuring 2 girls and 2 boys. Maharashtra featuring Nimish Muley, Aditi Dhumatkar, Avantika Chawan and Viraj Prabhu claimed gold with a time of 1:42.91 sec. Karnataka won silver with a time of 01:44.20 sec while Gujarat won bronze with a time of 01:44.33 sec.

Jyotsna Pahsare wins the Silver medal in the 50m Backstroke Senior Women category in 00:30.91 sec and Avantika Chavan wins the Bronze medal in the time of 00:31.63 sec. The Gold medal was won by Maana Patel of Gujarat in a time of 00:31.75 sec.

Women’s Monique Gandhi wins a Bronze medal in 800m Freestyle Senior Women category at the time of 09:44.14 sec. Gold medal was won by Shruti Mahalingam of Tamil Nadu in the time 09:40.63 sec and Preksha H M of Karnataka wins Silver medal in the time of 09:42.12 sec.

Event Highlights:

The day began with the final long distance event the 800m for women. Shruti Mahalingam of Tamil Nadu warded off a strong Challenge from Preksha H M of Karnataka to win gold with a time of 09:40.63 while Preksha clocked 9:42.12 to win silver. Monique Gandhi who swam the morning heat won bronze with a time of 09:44.12. This rounded off a fantastic event for Monique.

The Second Event of the day was the 100m Breaststroke which saw Sandeep Sejwal of Railways continued his fine form to win with a time of 01:02.12. Likhith S P improved Karnataka’s tally by winning silver with a time of 1:04.15 while Jashandeep Singh of Punjab won bronze with a time of 1:04.64.

The 100m breaststroke for women featured a nail biting finish with Yesterday’s record breaker Saloni Dalal being upset by Chahat Arora who won her second gold of the meet winning with a time 1:16.39 Saloni clocked 1:16.54 while Harshita Jayaram won bronze with a time of 1:17.61.

Madhu P.S. of services broke his own record to establish a New national record in the 50m Backstroke men with a time of 26.73. Arvind Mani of Services won silver with a time of 27.30 while the bronze was shared between Vedant Seth of Haryana who trains at the Glenmark SAI Program in Delhi and Rohit Imoliya of Services with a time of 27.33.

Aaron Dsouza of the Railways won the highly competitive 100m freestyle with a time of 51.65. Anshul Kothari of Gujarat claimed silver with a time of 51.94 while Sahil Chopra of Punjab won bronze with a time of 52.56.

Madhu P.S. of Services won 2 Gold 1 Silver and created 2 new national records with a total of 19 points to be crowned the best swimmer in the Men’s Category while Manaa Patel of Gujarat who won 3 Gold and 1 Bronze and created 1 new national record with a total of 25 points was crowned the best female swimmer.

The Swimming team championship was won by Railways in the Mens with a total of 175 points, while Maharashtra won the women’s championship with 148 points underlying the strong overall performance from the Girls. Karnataka won the ovewrall swimming championships with 246 points.

In the Diving championships the Services team won the men’s championships with a total of 33 points while the railways won the women’s championship with 27 points.

In the water polo events in the men’s category Railways won the gold, Services the silver and Police won the bronze. In the Women’s section Kerala won the Gold, Maharashtra the Silver while Bengal won the bronze.
