Battle of sisters: Serena beat Venus at US Open

New York: In the most awaited match of the US Open, younger sibling Serena Williams beat Venus Williams 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in quarterfinal on Tuesday night and is now just two wins away from the Calendar Year Grand Slam. If Serena wins the title, it will be her 22nd Grand Slam title, a tie in the Open Era record.

No. 1 seed Serena drew the first blood and she went on t take the first set 6-2. However, Venus came back strong in the second set to win five straight games to make it 6-1.
However, Serena wasn’t the one to let the match slip and made it 3-0 in the third set. Thereafter, the two held back their serve until Serena finally clinched it, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

At the end of the day, though, Serena improved to 16-11 lifetime against Venus, and, having won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this season, the World No.1 is now two wins away from completing her first Calendar Year Grand Slam - winning all four majors in a single season.
