Athletics: Indian team for Asian Grand Prix Series 2015

New Delhi: A 24-member Indian Athletics Team will be leaving for Thailand on Saturday to participate in the Asian Grand Prix Series, commencing from June 22, 2015.

The team comprises of 11 women athletes and 13 men, who will be competing in the three-leg Asian GP Series which is spread over a span of a week. The Indian campaign will be spearheaded by 2015 Asian Athletics Championships (Wuhan) Gold medal winner in shot put, Inderjit Singh, who also won the Bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games, Asian Games Gold Medal winner in 4x400m women’s relay and Silver medal in the quarter-miles event at the recently-concluded Asian Athletics Championships, MR Poovamma and .Bronze medal winner in sprints at the Wuhan Championships, Srabani Nanda, in addition to other potential medal winners..

On this occasion, AFI President and Olympian Mr Adille J Sumariwalla said, “After the impressive performance of the Indian team in the recently-concluded Asian Athletics Championships where we finished 3rd overall in the medal tally, we hope that our athletes will benefit enormously from participating in the Asian Grand Prix Series. I’m sure the Asian GP Series will serve as an exciting platform for both our stars athletes and the promising ones.”

1st leg - June 22, 2015 - Bangkok, THA
2nd leg - 25th June 2015 - Pathumthani, THA
3rd leg - 29th June 2015 - Chanthaburi, THA
Competition Events Men: (Track) - 100m, 400m, 800m, 110mH, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay (Field) - Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Javelin Throw
Women: (Track) - 100m, 400m, 800m, 100mH, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay (Field) - Triple Jump, High Jump, Discus Throw, Shot Put 3)
Prize Money: Athletes will be able to win the following prize money: Individual Events 1st Place - US$1,500.00; 2nd Place - US$ 800.00; 3rd Place - US$ 500.00.
According to the organisers all accepted/nominated athletes are required to participate in all three venues to be eligible for the prize money. There will be no prize money for the relay events.
