HWPGT: Amateurs Anisha Padukone & Raksha Phadke steal the show on day 2

Bengaluru: Benglauru amateur Anisha Padukone along with Pune’s Raksha Phadke played spectacular golf today to grab the lead at the end of the second day’s play. The amateur duo, who are playing their maiden event this season, were tied for the first place with identical totals of even par 144 after the second round of the eighth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2014. The INR 5,00,000 event is being played at Bengaluru’s flagship KGA Golf Course and will culminate on 11th July 2014.

Pune amateur Raksha Phadke and local girl Anisha Padukone both carded the days lowest score of 1 under 71. Raksha played a careful round, which included three birdies on the 1st, 6th and 9th holes in addition to two bogeys on the 3rd and 16th holes. Anisha however played an attacking round today, carding five birdies on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th and 14th holes. Her round also included two bogeys on the 11th and 15th holes along with a double bogey on the 8th hole.

The eighth leg so far has seen some impressive golf from local stars as Hero MotoCorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet and amateur Nikita Arjun were tied for the third place with current Hero Order of Merit leader and Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor, all carding identical scores of 146 after 36 holes.

Sharmila began strongly with two birdies on the 1st and 4th holes with a lone bogey on the 9th hole in her front nine. Her back nine however wasn’t very impressive as she carded two consecutive bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes. Giving company to the Bengauru professional was current Hero Order of Merit leader and Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor. Vani who carded an even par score today played a careful round with two birdies and two bogeys a piece on the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 11th holes respectively. Local amateur Nikita Arjun who is also tied for the third place played consistently carding 1 over 73 in the second round. Her round consisted of three birdies on the 11th, 12th and 17th holes along with 4 bogeys on the 9th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes.

Overnight leader Shweta Galande again failed to capitalize on her impressive first round, as she slipped down by five places to be placed sixth after the second round with a total score of 147. She carded 4 over 76 in her birdieless second round, which included 4 bogies on the 2nd, 3rd, 15th and 16th holes. Trailing Shweta by three shots at the seventh place, and with a very similar score card is Delhi golfer Ankita Tiwana. Ankita too failed to card a single birdie in her round of 4 over 76, which consisted of 4 bogies on the 5th, 6th 12th and 18th holes.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi and Jaipur golfer Pallavi Jain were tied for the 8th place with identical totals of 151 after the second round. Neha’s round consisted of 4 birdies on the 3rd, 5th, 17th and 18th holes in addition to 2 bogeys on the 7th and 16th holes and a double bogey on the 11th hole.

Pallavi Jain on the other hand failed to maintain her first round momentum, as she carded 4 bogeys on the 7th, 8th, 13th and 18th holes along with 2 double bogeys on the 11th and 14th holes, with just a lone birdie on the 2nd hole.

Delhi amateur Mehar Atwal is at the tenth spot with a total of 152 while Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma is eleventh with a total of 154 after 36 holes.
