Paes Sr., Leander to be felicitated by AITA

New Delhi: The forever young tennis legend Leander Paes and his father Vece Paes will be felicitated by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) at Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Complex in December for their contribution to the sport.

Suman Kapur who is the AITA Coaches Committee chairman said in a statement that Leander Paes who keeps on defying age by winning the US Open last month will be honoured along with his father Vece Paes, who is also a well known name in the sports circle and is a doctor in sports medicine

Suman Kapur also added by saying that a decision has been taken to felicitate a few Indian greats who have served Indian tennis over the years along with Leander Paes whose contribution to Indian tennis and sports in general is there to be seen.


The felicitation will be held during AITA`s seventh National Coaches Conference at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Complex here Dec 19-22.

Earlier Leander have also received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, in 1996–1997; the Arjuna Award in 1990; and the Padma Shri award in 2001 for his outstanding contribution to tennis in India.

Leander's father, Vece is a former hockey player, who was part of the bronze medal winning Indian team at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
