US Open: Federer beats Zemlja to enter second roundNew York: Roger Federer is all geared up to claim the US Open for the sixth time and it was quite evident from the way he was serving in his opening clash of this Grand Slam. He outshined Grega Zemlja by 6-3, 6-2 and 7-5 in the delayed clash to reach his 38th consecutive second-round of Grand Slams.
 

Federer and Zemlja were going neck-in-neck till the seventh game but thereafter Federer broke the World number 62 and claimed the opening set. Federer fired six aces and lost just three points on his serve.

He optimized this chance really well and made the most of this early break. His serve was just too hot for Zemlja to handle. Federer came up with 10 points to win the set by 6-2 and was leading by 2-0 after the 48th minute.
 




Learning from his mistakes, Zemlja brought down his unforced errors and levelled the third set 3-3. But Federer was ready for this head-on collision and as he converted his 10th break point of the match and moved two games from victory. Federer finall won the third set 7-5.

Federer will now play against Argentina's Carlos Berlocq, who battled through five sets against Santiago Giraldo of Colombia, in the second round.

US Open: Federer beats Zemlja to enter second roundTomas Berdych managed to overcome his first round Italian opponent Paolo Lorenzi by 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. He was quick and sharp with his reflexes and was able to anticipate the moves of his opponents quite well. Though, during the second and third set he did have some issues because of which Lorenzi went on to break him three times in five games. His exquisite and unexpected drop shots were just too good and even made his opponent applaud.

John Isner had a great outing against the veteran Filippo Volandri. 13th-seed Isner cruised to a quick-and-easy 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 first-round victory over the Italian on Tuesday at the US Open.
