Sao Paulo: Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull finished sixth at the chaos marred Brazilian Grand Prix to clinch his third consecutive Formula One title and enter the record books as he became the third drivers in the history of the F1 to win his three championship on the trot.
Vettel who required to finish in the fourth did just enough after Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who had to win the race to win the championship finished second behind Jenson Button of McLaren. Alonso was followed by his teammate Felipe Massa in the third place.
Red Bull had already captured the constructer’s title in the last race at Austin, Texas.
Vettel ended the season with 281 points while Alonso trailed him by three points on 278. Kimi Raikonnen of Lotus was third overall on 207 in his comeback year.
This is the third time that Alonso lost the title in the last race of the season.
Mark Webber of Red Bull finished fourth, while Nico Hulkenburg in his last race for Sahara Force India took fifth spot.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes, Jean-Eric Vergne of STR-Ferrari and Kamui Kabuyashi of Sauber-Ferrari ended the race seventh, eighth and ninth respectively at the season ending Brazilian GP.
Raikonnen finished the race10th.
Paul di Resta, the other Sahara Force India driver was classified 19th while Narain Karthikeyan of HRT was classified 18th.
