Federer to meet Falla in first round at London Olympics; Djokovic to play Fognini

London: World No. 1 Roger Federer will meet Colombia’s Alejandro Falla in the first round at the London Olympic Tennis Event, which begins on Saturday at the All England Club, Wimbledon. Federer, who is appearing at his fourth Olympic Games, has been placed in the same half of the draw as fourth seed David Ferrer, who will play Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

Second seed Novak Djokovic, the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist, will challenge Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first round. Djokovic is in the same half of the draw as third seed and British favourite Andy Murray, who faces Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland. Fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France will meet Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci, the recent Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad titlist.

In the doubles competition, top-seeded Americans Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have been placed in the same quarter of the draw as Switzerland’s Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka, the Beijing 2008 gold medallists. The teams could meet in the quarter-finals. The Bryans, bronze medallists four years ago, play Bellucci and Andre Sa in the first round, while Federer and Wawrinka take on Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Go Soeda.

French second seeds Michael Llodra and Tsonga will faces Argentines David Nalbandian and Eduardo Schwank.
