Sreesanth & controversies are inseparable…Bhajji, Symonds, Smith, there are many in the speedster’s list

Indian speedster S Sreesanth is once again in the news for wrong reasons. But this time the controversy did not hit him playing on the ground. Somehow the over-excited cricketer got into a controversy in a plane!

Sreesanth, who underwent a couple of surgeries, was allotted an emergency exit seat by a check-in counter executive at the Bangalore airport on his Bahgalore-Delhi flight. However, attendant inside the flight requested him to vacate the seat, saying that he was injured. Sreesanth then argued with the attendant saying that he had not availed any special facility like wheelchair service and hence couldn’t be denied the seat.

A fellow passenger was quoted saying that Sreesanth misbehaved and even used abusive language. Sreesanth denied the allegations and said that he did not misbehave in the flight.

There are chances that what Sreesanth is saying is true, but one thing that goes against him is his track-record. He has always been an emotional character and has been involved in a lot of controversies in the past. His expression in the field is too loud and that has landed him in trouble more than once. Let’s have a look at some of the incidents that has kept this player in news for wrong reasons.

The biggest controversy that this paceman was involved in was the slap-gate incident in the inaugural Indian Premier League. Harbhajan Singh who was a part of Mumbai Indians team slapped Sreesanth, who was playing for Kings XI Punjab after the match that Mumbai lost. Harbhajan was banned for the remaining matches.

Sreesanth’s gesture after hitting Andre Nel for a six in India’s tour of South Africa in 2006 shocked the entire cricketing fraternity. Nel said a few words to the Indian fast bowler after he bowled a bouncer to him and on the very next ball Sreesanth danced down the track to hit Nel for a straight six. And what followed that six was something unexplainable. Sreesanth started dancing and started twirling his bat. The sight is still considered to be one of the funniest moments in the history of cricket.

Sreesanth has a habit of getting into tussle with the big players and he could not resist having a go at Andrew Symonds. Australia toured India in 2007 and in a one-day things heated up between the two players. Symonds played an explosive innings but lost his wicket to Sreesanth in the dying overs. Sreesanth after taking the wicket made some very aggressive gestures toward Symonds. Sreesanth continued his aggressive taunts toward Symonds throughout the series.

In 2010-11, when India travelled to South Africa, the aggressive fast bowler took on Graeme Smith, the opposition captain. It was alleged that Sreesanth made some personal remarks on Smith. Even the Indian captain MS Dhoni said that Sresanth is very hard to control sometimes and he assured Smith that he won’t repeat his mistake.
