India will qualify for London Olympics: Michael Nobbs

New Delhi: Indian hockey coach Michael Nobbs seemed to be in a happy mood after the practice session at Major Dhyanchand Stadium here on Monday evening as the coach was seen chatting happily with the players. On being asked about the preparation prior to the Olympic qualifier, Nobbs said that he was fully confident of India making it to the London Olympics as the combination of youth and experience was working well for the team.

“Team is a mix of youth and experience and they are gelling well before the qualifier,” said Nobbs, adding that the team have improved with respect to penalty corner conversion since the Test series against South Africa and he was confident that India would do well in that area.

When asked about the Sahara's entry as sponsors, the coach said their focus was on the game and all were geared up for the qualifier. “The layers are just concentrating on the game. They do not want any off-field activities to distract them. Can't you all see the boys are so happy and excited,” he said, adding added that Hockey India has taken an initiative to start a Hockey Academy in Banglore and that would do immense good to Indian hockey.
