Junior Indian men beat New Zealand 5-1 in opening match

Junior-Men-Hockey-TeamBrisbane Australia: Playing the first game of the 5-match test series in Australia, the Indian Junior Men defeated New Zealand 5-1 to start the tournament on a positive note. The games are being played at the Gold Coast, Australia and are in preparation for the 8th Men’s Junior Asia Cup in 2015.

The match began with both the teams playing an attacking game and it was as early as in the 7th minute itself that Mandeep Singh of India scored the foremost goal of the match, giving India an early lead of 1-0. India was awarded a penalty corner in the 10th minute and Varun Kumar effortlessly converted it into the second goal of the game only to be closely followed by a third goal, another penalty corner, by the young Harmanpreet Singh in the 16th minute.

New Zealand frantically tried to penetrate the Indian defence and put their ball in the net. The opponent scored their lone goal, a field goal, in the 25th minute into the game. In the last quarter, Indian forward Parvinder Singh stroke a beautiful field goal in the 50th minute taking the score to 4-1. Continuing their dominance, India struck again in the 54th minute of the match when Sumit Toppo managed to convert a penalty corner into a stunning goal, taking the score to an unbeatable 5-1.

At the end of the game, the score stood at 5-1 announcing a well-earned victory for the junior men hockey team.
