Chennai: Pawan Rajbhar played an exceptional game and scored 4 goals for the team as they defeated Hockey Maharashtra by 7-3 on the 2nd Day of the 4th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) played in Chennai today.
In the pool B match, Hockey Odisha started with a bang and defeated Karnataka by 5- 0. Hockey Odisha started off really well, Sunil Ekka scored the first goal in the 10th minute through penalty corner and gave the team an early lead. Hockey Odisha continued the momentum and Dipsan Tirkey scored the next goal through another penalty corner in the 17th minute of the match. Hockey Odisha was fully charged up and Karnataka was unable to defend their attack. Just before the half time Teiphil Kujur scored the third goal for Hockey Odisha in the 34th minute and took a lead of 3-0 in the first half.
In the second half Karnataka improvised their game and was defending well but Hockey Odisha came back to attack and Felix Baa scored two goals in quick succession in the 51st and 58th minute through field goal and penalty stroke and defeated Karnataka by 5-0 in their first match of the tournament.
In the 2nd match of the day, Hockey Bhopal took on Chhattisgarh in the pool D match. Both the team played well and scored 3 goals each resulting in a draw. Hockey Bhopal started off very well, Amit Rajbhar scored the first goal for the team in the 8th minute through penalty corner. Hockey Bhopal maintained the lead of 1-0 and did not allow Chhattisgarh to score any goal in the first half.
Hockey Bhopal scored another goal in the very 1st minute of the second half when Nadeem Uddin converted the penalty corner into a goal in the 36th minute of the game taking a 2-0 lead over Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh came back and surprised Hockey Bhopal when Wasiullah Khan and Raja Khan scored two back to back field goals in the 44th and 45th minute and levelled the score 2-2. Amir UR Rehman again scored a field goal for Hockey Bhopal in the 50th minute of the game and took a lead over Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh did not lose the hope and 60th minute Kushal Yadav levelled the score when he converted the penalty corner into a goal. Both Hockey Bhopal and Chhattisgarh showed their strength in the field and did not let over power each other. The match ended in a draw with 3-3 score.
In another pool B match, Himachal Pradesh defeated Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd by 3-2. Amandeep Singh scored the first goal of the match in the 19th minute through field goal. Soon after Abhishek Raghuvanshi scored another goal for Himachal Pradesh taking a lead of 2-0 over Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. Vinay Valmiki of Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd converted a penalty stroke into a goal in the 28th minute of the game. At end of the first half the score was 2-1. In the second half both the team gave a tough fight to each other but Venkatesh Devkar scored a goal for Mumbai Hockey association Ltd and levelled the score 2-2. In very next minute, Himachal Pradesh hit back and Abhishek scored third goal for the team through field goal in the 54th minute and won the match by 3-2.
In the last match of the day of pool D, Sports Authority of India beats Hockey Maharashtra by 7-3. Navdeep Singh scored the first goal for Sports Authority of India in the 10th minute through penalty corner. Sports Authority of India maintained the lead in the entire first half. Pawan Rajbhar played tremendously today and scored 4 goals for the team in the 34th, 42nd, 52nd and 65th minute of the game through field goal. Saurabh Kumar and Sandeep Singh scored one goal each for Sports Authority of India in 45th and 69th minute respectively. Hockey Maharashtra tried to pull back in the second half. Mithlesh Kumar converted a penalty stroke into a goal to get the scoreboard tickling for Hockey Maharashtra. Sumit Kumar scored two goals in the 59th and 63rd minute of the game through penalty corner and field goal.
